NCE Oriental Rugs for carpets is located in a residential complex in Sujjan Singh Park, opposite Khan Market. There is no signboard and this is not your typical shopping complex. The owner, Mr. Ashraff Wangnoo, has been in the carpet trade for the past 25 years. He can explain in detail the knots per square inch the silk on silk weft and warp and differentiate it from the silk on cotton weft and warp. Silk hand knotted carpets, antique carpets, carpets from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries fill the two big display rooms.
A big carpet like a 12 ft by 14 ft one, could take almost 2 years to weave. Kashmiri families who have been in this trade for several generations, work painstakingly on producing the carpets.
The owners have outlets in the Hyatt Hotel, Hotel Intercontinental and Le Meridian in connaught Place and Welcom Heritage Houseboats, Nagin lake in Srinagar.
