What is a Kurti

What is a Kurta

A kurta is long top worn on top of the traditional salwar or churidar.

In comparison, a kurti is  short. Today, this garment is very much in vogue as they can be paired with jeans,plazo, pants and skirts. As a garment it is very versatile. They  can be worn to a casual function or to a formal party.

Casual wear kurtis are made in cotton with or without embroidery. In other words, they are in plain cotton or with minimal embroidery or prints. At times, the kurti  can also be paired with a stole.

Party wear kurtis are made in silk, georgette or crepe fabrics. A lot of embellishments in the form of embroidery or sequins and zardozi work is added to this. All the designer wear shops have kurtis in party wear style.

Types of Kurti

Further, some are in block prints, some in ikaat prints, some in plain silk and some in Chanderi Silk. Chanderi silk  kurtis are all very popular. In fact, it is light weight & stylish and more important it falls well. Further, the  Chikankari Kurti in cotton is stylish & ideal for summers.

They can be paired with a stole or a half jacket to add some colour.
